On July 4th 2017, we were playing in the front yard when we realized my younger brother, Anderson, had wandered off and we could not find him. I was petrified! I thought that we might not find him and he would be gone. After desperately calling for him and searching the neighborhood; we finally found him, safe, playing with a dog in our neighbor’s house. But, every day I worry that he might do it again.
Anderson is autistic and like many other children like him, he elopes. With limited communication skills, I fear he could get lost, seriously injured, or even worse. Concerned not only about the safety of my brother, but that other families have to experience this same emotional stress, I created Boomers.
Families are able to purchase the boxers through our website. In addition, Boomers has a non-profit division that allows our program to support ASD families selected by our committee. There are a limited number of packages. Because of this, there is an application process to obtain a package. This is NOT an income based application. It is meant to confirm the device will be used as intended. The applications are reviewed by our selection committee quarterly.
